The most splendid staircase, which has no analogue architectural objects in the Baltics, in 4 Alberta Street is now finished. This is the opinion of the enterprise AS „Būvuzņēmums Restaurators” masters who carried out the facade and staircase restoration works.
Alberta Street appeared in 1900, and it is believed that exactly in this street there are the most outstanding Art Nouveau buildings located. The house on 4 Alberta Street, which is built after Mikhail Eisenstein conception in 1904, is owned by entrepreneur Yevgeny Gomberg (Jevgeņijs Gombergs). This Art Nouveau masterpiece is considered to be one of the most important and significant projects of M. Eisenstein. Supposedly, it is also one of the reasons why the house is so sumptuous and rich in formations. J.Gombergs himself supported even writing a book devoted to this building and its publication in three languages. The building is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage site – in the “Historic Centre of Riga” division.

There are eight exclusive apartments in the building, a square meter of which would cost from 6,000 to 7,000 euros, because it was restored with the maximum retention of all the original parts. Also restoration of the wall paintings in the lobby and staircase was completed, which is one of the most unique elements in this project. Fortunately, the fragments of ancient paintings had been preserved, which made it possible to restore them. However, only after the beginning of work the three periods of painting have been identified.
It was decided to restore the original polychrome system of decor and painting (the variant of Eisenstein times), which was also carried out. This unique painting and present formations are the reason to believe that the staircase on 4 Alberta Street is one of the most splendid ones in the Baltics.

The facade is full of exuberant formations where there was a need not only for their restoration, but also for individual part manufacturing anew. The interior formations, consisting of ceiling sockets and cornices also made the restoration works more difficult. However, now they are over and the board of AS “Būvuzņēmums Restaurators” supposes the works that were carried out in 4 Alberta Street to be one of their most successful projects in recent years.
